²⁴ Yet to those who repent he grants a return,
   and he encourages those who are losing hope.

A Call to Repentance

²⁵ Turn back to the Lord and forsake your sins;
   pray in his presence and lessen your offence.
²⁶ Return to the Most High and turn away from iniquity,^*
   and hate intensely what he abhors.
²⁷ Who will sing praises to the Most High in Hades
   in place of the living who give thanks?
²⁸ From the dead, as from one who does not exist, thanksgiving has ceased;
   those who are alive and well sing the Lord’s praises.
²⁹ How great is the mercy of the Lord,
   and his forgiveness for those who return to him!

Two Kinds of Wisdom

13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Show by your good life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom. ¹⁴But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not be boastful and false to the truth. ¹⁵Such wisdom does not come down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, devilish. ¹⁶For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind. ¹⁷But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy. ¹⁸And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace for^* those who make peace.
